Beyond Boundaries: 35 Artists Connect

For the past 11 years, Chicago's artists have looked forward to Chicago Artists Month, the city wide celebration of the visual arts during the month of October. This past year's celebration was themed "Beyond Boundaries".
About the Show
Boundaries-physical or imagined, global or personal-can constrain our lives if we let them. In "Beyond Boundaries - 35 Chicago Artists Connect", members of the Collaborative and invited guests created 12" x 12" unique works of art using materials of their choice: paper, glass, wood, paint, fabric etc. Each work of art contained a line or visual element that crossed the center, connecting one artist to the next, moving outside the borders of an individual space and into a new boundless one. The modular format of the project allows the exhibition to travel, be reconfigured and find new connections along the way. A collection of postcards of the original art was created to celebrate this project. This allowed the public to purchase a form of the art while actively participating in the idea of going beyond boundaries, i.e. the "sending off" of the art as mail, disseminating the images all over the world. In this way the theme comes full circle. The postcards have also been displayed, arranged in frames, laminated, and used to build houses of "cards". Bring your friends, countrymen, neighbors, and kids! This event is free to the public. Cubs AND Sox fans welcome! celebrate Chicago and shop local! "Other" artists include Jeff Atkins, Ruth Moscovitch, Joel Rendon, Anatole Upart, Miles Votek, and prints from the CPC collection. The show will run through June 3, 2006.
On The Mark: Chicago Printmakers Collaborative 1989-2005

THANKS TO ALL who participated in, curated, publicized, and viewed our beautiful exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center. Our show, On The Mark: Chicago Printmakers Collaborative 1989-2005 was an enormous success, seen by thousands of people and written up in Chicago Social, Time Out Chicago, and Chicago Artists News, among other publications. It was truly something to be proud of! Special thanks go out to Lanny Silverman and Jill Hurwitz and Cynthia Quick from the Dept. Of Cultural Affairs, and to Carrie Iverson, who did such a spectacular job with the original proposal. I had a great time yakking it up with Tony Fitzpatrick at the Gallery talk on October 6th, and I just finished the eeny weeny etching we worked on together during our presentation. Facade Project
Each window on the upper three floors of the CPC contains the faces
of 9 of the soldiers who have died in Iraq. Altogether, the piece shows the faces of 648 of the troops who have died in Iraq as a tribute and reminder.
