CPC is so excited to offer a full roster of winter classes. For the first time ever we are offering a weekday Intro to Printmaking Class on Tuesdays from 11am-2pm! Taught by new CPC Co-Director Lauren Steinert, you’ll be getting inky in no time and create beautiful images. Intro to Printmaking: Screenprinting, Relief, and Monoprint

Description
A fun way to get introduced to the basics of printmaking. This class covers three unique printmaking processes: screen print, relief, and monoprint. We will explore the fundamental techniques of each process including carving linoleum blocks, exposing imagery to screens, and more painterly methods of printing with monoprint. We will also get creative and explore combining these different techniques together to create layered, colorful, and exciting prints. This course is open to all and is great for anyone interested in making gorgeous prints by hand. Much of what you need will be provided by CPC, but some basic supplies will be required. A supply list will be provided on the first day of class.

Traditional Etching
with Duffy O’Connor

Description
This hugely popular course in traditional intaglio printmaking is back! Etching techniques of line, aquatint and soft ground using zinc or copper plates will be covered. Direct intaglio techniques such as drypoint and engraving will also be addressed. The instruction will be flexible to accommodate beginners as well as experienced printmakers who would like to refresh their etching and printing skills. Students will explore black and white as well as color imagery. Material list provided prior to first class.
Screenprinting

In this class, you will learn the complete process of screen printing, from start to finish. You will be introduced to image preparation, transferring the image onto the screen, and printing on your chosen surface and in your preferred colors.
This class is open to all skill levels; no prior experience is required. However, those who wish to explore the subject in greater depth or refresh their previously acquired skills are also welcome.
A supply list will be provided prior to the first class.
Relief Printmaking

Description
Using carving tools, students will learn how to make linoleum and woodcut prints with both hand-printing methods as well as on the press. This class will include both exercises and step-by-step instruction to guide beginners through this medium. Anyone with previous experience will be supported in developing their ideas and learning more advanced techniques such as multi-block and reduction printing. A supply list will be provided prior to the first class.
Duffy O’Connor
Primarily an etcher, Duffy O’Connor also teaches relief printmaking and screenprinting. He offers private and small group sessions (up to three students) in intaglio processes (etching, drypoint, mezzotint, engraving), relief processes (woodcut, linocut, wood engraving), and screenprinting using photosensitive process or working directly on the screen.

Description
Duffy O'Connor is an artist and educator residing in Chicago since 1999. Holding a bachelor's degree in History from Grand Valley State University and is a graduate of the University of Iowa's School of Art and Art History with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking. Mr. O'Connor has been a member of the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative since the year 2000. In addition to the Printmakers Collaborative, Mr. O'Connor teaches art and design at Harper College and drawing and printmaking classes at the Evanston Art Center.
Eric Wilson
Eric Wilson offers private and small group sessions (up to three students) in traditional stone lithography, plate lithography, and photo lithography. Classes are offered in two 3-hour sessions. The first session focuses on drawing and processing; the second session is for printing. Wilson is also available for drawing and printing demonstrations covering the history and process of stone lithography. For more unique requests, please inquire.

Description
Eric Wilson is an artist and educator living in Chicago IL. Wilson is a practicing lithographer with over ten years of experience in printmaking. He received his BFA in Printmaking at Northern Illinois University and his MFA in Printmaking at the University of Arizona. While he is well-versed in all printmaking mediums, he has focused his practice on lithography. His current work merges historic and contemporary styles and printing techniques. Wilson specializes in traditional stone lithography, aluminum plate litho, and photo litho. He currently teaches at Harold Washington College and Chicago Printmakers Collaborative.
Kim Laurel
Kim Laurel teaches private and small group sessions (up to three students) in Monoprint, Monotype, Gelatin/Gelli Plate, Collagraph, Collage and specialty techniques on a per-request basis both on and off the press. Classes are offered in 3-hour sessions. For more unique requests please inquire.

Description
Kim Laurel is an artist and graphic designer originally from Cleveland, Ohio. She studied at Oberlin College, The Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland State University and received her Masters Degree from Illinois State University. One of the original members of CPC, Kim has exhibited her work internationally and her works are part of both public and private collections.
Work Sessions
If you have a basic understanding of printmaking and don’t need how-to instruction (or if you’re a student looking for extra shop time) work sessions are for you! A shop member will be on site to help you find what you need; otherwise, you are expected to work independently. A prior private lesson, group class, or brief portfolio review may be necessary to ensure that you are capable of using the equipment.
Work sessions are available in the following techniques: Etching, Photoetching, Lithography (stone, plate, and paper), Screenprinting, Relief (woodcut and linoleum), Bookmaking, Collograph, and Monoprint.

To inquire about a work session, email info@chicagoprintmakers.com with a description of what you'll be working on, as well as a brief description of your experience in the medium and ability to work independently.
Work sessions are currently only available to be scheduled on Sundays from 11-3 pm.
Work Session Rates:
- 3 hours ($45)
- 4 hours ($50)
- +$5 charge for using CPC emulsion for screenprinting
CANCELLATION POLICY: Tuition is only refundable for group classes when CPC is notified at least one week prior to the session start date. In this case, a $50 processing fee will be deducted from the full cost of the class. Instead of a refund, students may opt to receive the full cost of the class as a credit to be used towards a future course. Either way, students are responsible for notifying the CPC that they wish to drop a class or workshop; not attending the first class does not constitute an official cancellation. If you must drop a class within a week of the first session, no refund or credit will be given (except in the event of documented medical reasons with a physician’s note or other extenuating circumstances). CPC does not offer makeup sessions for missed classes. However, if you must miss a class due to illness or extreme weather, CPC will offer a complimentary work session (more information about work sessions is available on our website under current classes) once the course is complete and the student is confident with their skills. While classes are rarely canceled at CPC, students will receive a full refund without a processing fee if a cancellation does occur.
